Writing might be solitary, but revision doesn’t have to be.
Wordcrafters critique groups are small, member-run circles of four to eight writers who meet regularly to share work in progress and give each other thoughtful, useful feedback.
Critique groups are open to Wordcrafters members writing in all genres: fiction, poetry, creative nonfiction/memoir.
How our critique groups work
We’ll match you with a group of folks in your genre, who are available to meet at the same times you are, then get you connected to begin your group.
Each group starts with a facilitated meeting led by Daryll Lynne Evans or Jeaux Bartlett. You’ll meet each other, decide how your group will run, create your group agreement, and pick a lead or co-leads.
Each group decides how it wants to function. Some groups send pages ahead of time and come ready with feedback. Others read aloud and respond in the moment. Some take turns, with one writer in the spotlight each meeting, and others let whoever is ready to submit work go next. We’ll give you options and help you find what works for your group.
Feedback is author-focused, following a process based on Liz Lerman’s Critical Response Process. There’s no cone of silence, and the author’s voice, goals, and feedback needs take priority.
We’ll also provide a shared craft vocabulary drawn from Wordcrafters’ workshop materials.
Where critique groups meet
In the Wordcrafters studio at 436 Charnelton St. in downtown Eugene, or online in the Wordcrafters Zoom room.
What critique groups cost
Critique groups are a benefit of Wordcrafters membership. Studio meetings are $5 per person per meeting, paid in cash at sign-in or with a credit card online.
Who can join a Wordcrafters writing critique group
Critique groups are open to active Wordcrafters members. All genres and experience levels are welcome.
Once you apply, we’ll place you in an existing group with room or form a new one at the start of the next quarter.
Getting started
Our first groups will begin in January 2027.
Applications to be placed in one of these are due by Nov 30. To apply, fill out this sign-up form.
Joining an established group
Writers joining a group that’s already running attend a couple of meetings as provisional members first, so everyone (including you) can make sure it’s a good fit. Wordcrafters staff handle all placements.
