Wordcrafters is an itty-bitty nonprofit with a handful of part-time staff doing a whole lot of good in the Eugene literary community. Our volunteers are the engine behind the magic—and a big reason why we always have chocolate on hand.
Whether you want to welcome writers at the door, help judge youth stories, edit an anthology, or get us on the radar of local businesses, there’s a role for you here.

The Shenanigan Support Squad
Greeters, hosts, and facilitators who keep our events running with warmth and good energy.
- Exuberant Greeter—Welcome guests, hand out nametags, and make sure every writer walks in feeling like they belong. (Word Open Mic and other events.)
- Marvelous Host—Be the steady, helpful presence that keeps an event humming— snacks stocked, water refilled, questions answered. Hosts receive a 75% discount on the event they’re hosting.
- Fabulous Class Facilitator—Lead recurring classes like journaling workshops and prompt-based writing times using our provided curriculum. Could also facilitate events through Wordcrafters Anywhere.
The Judging Department
Readers and editors who help shape our youth and adult contests.
- Cai Emmons Contest Judge—Read and score adult short fiction submissions using a provided rubric, all conducted virtually.
The Outreach Outfit
The crew that helps Wordcrafters reach a broader audience.
- Business Bridge Builder—Connect with local businesses about sponsoring Wordcrafters through phone calls, emails, and in-person visits. Great if you’re comfortable making the ask and love talking about what we do.
- Marketing Maven—Help get the word out through video editing, social media reels and stories, graphic design, photography, blog writing, or street team flyer-posting. Choose one or all of the above — we’re flexible.
- Podcast Accomplice—Help us wrap up the final season of StoryHelix by editing episodes and coordinating approvals with the original storytellers.
Studio and Operations Roles
Behind-the-scenes work that keeps the Wordcrafters Studio running beautifully.
- Cleaning Conjurer—Keep our studio space magical through sweeping, vacuuming, mopping, tidying, plant care, and event set-up and tear-down.
- Conductor of Paperwork—Provide essential organizational and administrative support: filing contracts and grants, prepping board binders, inputting data, addressing thank-you letters, and other office tasks.
- Librarian of Words—Help us build and manage a lending library for Wordcrafters members: cataloging the collection, setting up a check-out system, and keeping the space welcoming and organized. (Two of you, working as your own squad.)
