Wordcrafters is a regional literary hub for writers of all ages, novice to pro. We encourage writers to “be writing” and tell their stories. Since our inception over a decade ago, our programs have reached more than 7,800 adults and 8,300 youth.
We’re so grateful for the businesses and organizations who recognize the value of the stories created when we have safe spaces to write, share, and connect with each other. Monetary and in-kind donations ensure our programs reach the people most in need of them.

Our audience demographics
Our audience is made up of writers, readers, educators, artists, and other creatives throughout the Pacific Northwest. Most live in Oregon, in the Eugene-Springfield area.
They’re primarily women, age 45+ with interests in reading, writing, and exploring creative expression now they have more time to pursue their life-long interests.
Be Writing Festival

Our annual Be Writing Festival offers a full day of craft talks, time to write, and connection with other writers, as well as one-on-one consults with professional writers. Lunch, snacks, and refreshments are included.
Event attendance: 40-50 Eugene-area writers and professional instructors

Fiction Fantastic Youth Writing Contest
Awards ceremony: May 2026 at the Eugene Downtown Public Library
Fiction Fantastic is an annual short story writing contest for youth in grades K-12 in Lane County. Judged by volunteer writers and educators, winning stories are professionally editing and published in annual anthology, a testament to the hard work, creativity, and storytelling capabilities of the finalists.
The contest provides a platform for students’ voices to be heard, their creativity to be celebrated, and their skills to be recognized.
The annual awards ceremony celebrates the winning authors and invites parents, grandparents, and educators
Regular communications go out to families, teachers, librarians, and school administrators throughout Lane County.

Youth Creative Writing Workshops
Helping young writers find their voice
Write Club is our monthly creative writing workshop for youth, held throughout the school year in our cozy downtown studio. Young writers come together to learn from professional authors, explore new genres, and grow their storytelling skills in a fun, welcoming environment.
Each session offers supportive mentoring, hands-on writing activities, and the chance to connect with peers who love words just as much as they do. For many, it’s the one space where they feel truly seen and encouraged as writers.

Audience: We welcome more than 150 youth and families each year and connect regularly with parents, educators, and librarians across Lane County.

Youth Creative Writing Summer Camps
Inspiring the next generation of storytellers
Every summer, Wordcrafters welcomes young writers to our summer camps: Sci-Fi Fantasy Writing Camp and Adventures in Writing Camp—two week-long experiences that build writing skills, spark creativity, and offer kids a place to belong. Campers craft original stories, explore new genres, and connect with professional authors who help them find their unique voice.
Our camps help prevent the “summer melt” in academic skills while giving youth the chance to feel seen, heard, and celebrated as storytellers. With Pay-From-Your-Heart pricing and scholarships, we ensure cost is never a barrier to participation.

Word Open Mic: A Monthly Celebration of Storytelling
One Thursday a month, writers and word lovers gather for Word—our cozy, high-vibe open mic. It’s a space where voices rise, hearts open, and stories come to life. Whether you’re a seasoned poet or reading for the first time, Word is about connection, courage, and the joy of sharing words aloud.
Word is part literary event, part community ritual. Readers and listeners come together to be moved, inspired, and reminded that storytelling belongs to everyone—not just those with a publishing deal. It’s one of the few literary events in town that consistently draws a multi-generational, genre-diverse crowd.
Sponsorship supports the full 10-month series each year, helping us keep the mic open and the space welcoming for all.
