A month of writing. A year of impact.
Registration opens February 1 • Write-a-thon runs March 1–31
Your writing can’t fix everything—but it can help.
It can steady your mind. It can make room for your truth. It can be a small act of resistance in a loud world.
And when you turn that writing into a fundraiser, it also helps other writers in our community get access to craft, support, and a place to belong.
If your writing practice has been wobbly lately (hi, world), this is your gentle-but-serious invitation: pick a goal, write alongside community, and let your words do double-duty—for your own creativity and for a more empathetic, creative, courageous world.
What is Write-a-thon?
Write-a-thon is Wordcrafters’ annual writing challenge, where participants set a goal—words, minutes, hours, days, pages, poems, journal entries, whatever fits your brain—and invite friends/family to sponsor the effort.
Every dollar raised supports Wordcrafters programs that expand access to community, craft, and inspiration—especially for writers and young people whose voices have been marginalized or excluded.
Why this. Why now. Why you.
Because writing is more than productivity. It’s…
- Resistance. Writing helps us name what’s real, tell the truth, imagine alternatives, and refuse the stories that shrink us.
- Creative expression. In a noisy world, writing is a place where your voice gets to speak out loud.
- Emotional and mental health support. Writing can be grounding, clarifying, and regulating—especially when everything feels like too much.
And because Wordcrafters exists to make sure more people get access to that kind of lifeline: community + craft + inspiration (plus chocolate).
How it works
- Sign Up – Register as a writer and set your:
- writing goal (eg: 10,000 words, 20 sessions, 30 days, 15 hours, a poem a day, 3 morning pages each day)
- fundraising goal (eg: $150, $300, $1,000—go big or go snack)
- Gather Support – Invite sponsors to support your writing efforts with a donation
- Write! – Track your progress, share updates, and keep showing up—imperfectly, bravely, consistently
What your fundraising makes possible
When you Write-a-thon, you’re not just writing a draft—you’re funding a writing home.
Your support helps Wordcrafters:
- Increase access to workshops, classes, and community events
- Offer scholarships and reduced-price options so cost isn’t the thing that blocks someone’s creativity
- Empower youth writers through programs like Writers in the Schools (WITS) and other youth opportunities
- Uplift and amplify vibrantly diverse voices, especially those historically excluded
Writing support (we’ve got you)
When you sign up, you’ll get:
- A personalized fundraising page you can share (plus tech support if the internet gets spicy)
- Templates + talking points + graphics for asking people to sponsor you (email + social + FAQ + fundraising tips)
- Daily prompts and inspiration to keep the words moving—whether you’re drafting, journaling, revising, or writing poems in your Notes app at 11:47 pm
- A private Facebook group to share your successes and whine as much as you need to.

Donate to support a writer
Not up for the marathon? You can still fuel someone else’s.
Sponsor a writer—every dollar supports access to writing time, scholarships, and community programs.
Write for a cause. Write for your mind. Write for your people.
Your words matter. Your voice matters. Let’s spend March making space—for your writing, and for more writers to find their way home to story.
