When the days turn short and the world gets a little quieter, it can be easy for your writing to go into hibernation, too. Maybe you’ve been pulled in other directions. Maybe the weather has slowed your momentum. Maybe your ideas long for a gentle invitation back into the light.
Winterlude is that invitation.
This day-long writing retreat in the Wordcrafters studio gives you the time and space to return to your words–no pressure or perfection required (or allowed!). Wrap yourself in cozy clothes (slippers, sweaters, PJs, whatever you need) and settle into a creative rhythm with other writers.
At Winterlude, you’ll:
- Warm up your creativity with inspiring prompts
- Sink into focused writing sessions
- Write alongside other writers who understand what it means to show up for the page
- Sip hot drinks and nibble snacks as you go, to keep your creativity fueled and nourished
- Set your own pace in the calm of the Wordcrafters studio
How Winterlude is structured:
The day will be divided into inspiring writing sessions, interspersed with breaks for snacks, lunch, and sharing ideas and story snippets.
10-10:30 am Welcome, writing prompts, and intention setting
10:30 am-12:15 pm: two 45-minute writing sessions (with a 15-minute break in between)
12:15-1 pm: Lunch! Bring your lunch or order in. Chat with other writers and share a line you wrote.
1-3:45 pm: three 45-minute writing sessions with 15-minute breaks in between
3:45-4 pm: share a few words from your writing day.
Stay for the whole day, or join for the morning or afternoon–whatever works for your energy and schedule.

- New words on the page
- Ideas for your stories
- Motivation to continue
- Connection with your writing community

Your hosts
Daryll Lynne Evans (she/her) began her writing career as a playwright with the Performing Arts Conservatory in Colorado, but has since turned to fiction and screenwriting. She has an MFA in fiction from Purdue University, and can happily dive deep into literary fiction, but her true heart is in Sci-Fi Fantasy stories, especially the giant door-stopper tomes. She has presented workshops for the Willamette Writers Conference, The South Coast Writers Conference, and Wordcrafters Conference. She teaches writing workshops for adults and teens.
