Building a Writing Life: A Story of Community and Craft
After moving to Eugene five years ago, writer Tai Passerati was eager to establish new roots in the local writing community.
Through Wordcrafters, she was able to do that.
“Becoming involved with Wordcrafters gave me a foundation in my writing goals. I had a community behind me as I sat down daily to write.”
That community made a difference in her literary fiction efforts.
“The people I met and worked with helped me establish my writing days to a consistent level. Your classes on craft have inspired me, kept me working, and helped me build a solid daily foundation Meeting fellow writers inspired me to build my writing skills, which can be (no IS) a seemingly lone activity.”
From her first novel plotting class to year-long fiction master classes to becoming a volunteer judge for Wordcrafters’ annual youth short story contest, Tai has settled into her writing life.
“I was very grateful to be able to throw myself into ‘Be Writing,’” Tai says. “I knew no one when I moved here, and Wordcrafters and the people involved became my first community.”
