The Story of Wordcrafters, Chapter 9

Chapter 9: Connecting with our writing community

Wordcrafters is all about responding to our writing community’s needs.

Maybe you’re one of the folks who’s asked: “How can I be more a part of Wordcrafters and the writing life of our community?”

We heard that question enough from folks like you, {{Constituent First Name}}, that we created a membership program–to help our community feel connected to their writing work and to each other.

Starting in 2019, card-carrying Wordcrafters members not only got that connection, but also class discounts, and access to special member events like story submission parties, writing group speed dating, first pages critiques, and literary mixers. Oh, and #bewriting stickers!

Membership continues today and, thanks to our amazing members, supports our programming all around. It allows us to offer community events like write-ins, open mics, and lunchtime gatherings (none of which pay for themselves, even with attendance fees).

2019 also saw downtown Eugene’s Kesey Squared filled with poetry–for a day at least.

Through a partnership with Lane Arts Council and the City of Eugene, Wordcrafters hosted Fill the Square with Poetry, giving our community free access to play with language and creative expression.

It’s through the help of word-loving folks like you that these events are possible. It’s you who shows up to support them with your presence and your financial contributions. Thank you!

Will you make sure our community continues to have access to writing shenanigans that nourish the creative soul?
