The Story of Wordcrafters, Chapter 10

Chapter 10: That whole pandemic thing which upended so many plans

“There is no greater agony than bearing an untold story inside you.”

Dr. Maya Angelou

2020 brought calamity, upping the stakes of Wordcrafters’ story.

In this chapter, the brave adventurers of the Wordcrafters crew had to learn new skills (Zoom) and fight to stay connected despite outside forces tearing us apart (COVID-19 lockdowns).

Like so many other organizations, we pivoted, moving all our programming online.

Despite not being able to get together with people in person, we had as many programs in 2020 as any other year! Many of them were communal writing times as we tried to keep our spirits up and use our words to write through the darkness.

Thank you for supporting us during these dark and difficult times. It’s the only way we can get through them–together.

For young writers, cast out of school and shut away at home, we began QuaranTeened Voices. A way for youth to express themselves through a time when no one knew how to steer them, the program offered online write-ins, a teen summer camp, and an online poetry workshop series.

“This experience helped me to explore character development more deeply. I was able to step out of my comfort zone. It helped me to understand different aspects of what helps to make a character whole,” said one student who took our 2020 online summer camp.

Your support can help writers tell the stories they have inside. Stories that must come out. Perhaps that story is inside the writer in you.

Will you empower writers of all ages to tell their stories?
