Spring Workshops with Eric Witchey

Emotional-Causal Story

Saturday, April 3rd, 1-4 | Members $35 | Nonmembers $59

Have you ever written a story that almost works and then been unable to fix it? Have you ever stared at the blank page and wondered where to start? Either way, the ED ACE tool presented in this seminar by award-winning writer Eric Witchey will help you find or untangle the heart of your story. Character-driven is something all writers strive for, but how do we know when we’ve gotten there? Eric’s understanding of how the reader processes story internally and what that means in terms of technique for writers who want to wow their readers has been distilled into this simple, extremely powerful tool. Once you see it work, you will see it at the heart of every story, memoir, TV show, and film.

Eric will answer questions about the 2021 Fiction Fluency Seminar Series after the workshop from 4-4:30 pm

Create Is a Verb

Thursday, April 8th, 6-8 pm | Members FREE | Nonmembers $15

Writer’s Block is real, but it’s also well understood. Stuck? Muddled? Confused by which next step to take in your creative pursuits? Award-winning writer Eric Witchey will present tips, tricks, and brain hacks for writers and other creatives.

Based on his background in theoretical linguistics, his experience selling fiction in 12 genres, and the knowledge coming from creativity science and cognitive science, he has put together a group of practical tools writers can use to enhance, develop, and improve their productivity and results.

This workshop will include some theory, some demonstration, and a lot of fun hands-on experimentation. You will walk away with insights into your own creativity and how to build useful creative habits or improve the habits you already have.

Eric will answer questions about the 2021 Fiction Fluency Seminar Series after the workshop from 8-8:30 pm

Writing in the Character’s Moment

Thursday, April 22nd,  6-8 pm  | Members $25 | Nonmembers $49

Reader understanding comes from the ability to recognize patterns and relate them to one another. Revision requires the writer to alter the text to support the reader in this process. This workshop will demonstrate character-based, moment-by-moment revision choices that trigger reader responses and allow them to create meaning from the little black squiggles on a contrasting background. Award-winning author Eric Witchey will demonstrate executable dramatic textual patterns, show the critical elements on which to focus, reveal the power of changes within the patterns, then demonstrate how the patterns can be built into larger constructs. Attendees will walk away with a metaphoric magnifying lens to help them examine moment-by-moment choices within scene narrative.

Eric will answer questions about the 2021 Fiction Fluency Seminar Series after the workshop from 8-8:30 pm
