Attire: Whatever you’d like (get comfy or fancy, we won’t judge)

This is the most comfortable gala you’ll ever stay home for. No heels. No speeches. No small talk. No dodgy appetizers. No peopling.

Just you, your couch, and the warm glow of knowing you’re keeping the Wordcrafters magic alive for writers of all ages.

What is the No-Show Gala?

The Wordcrafters No-Show Gala is a fundraiser for folks who care deeply about ensuring writers have access to the space and support they need to tell their stories, and who wouldn’t mind staying in and skipping another fundraising event.

It’s an innovative approach to raising much-needed funds. Rather than going toward traditional gala expenses (catering, venue rental, decorations, entertainment, raffles, and all that swag), all donations stay with Wordcrafters. By not having an in-person event, we eliminate thousands of dollars in costs, allowing your donation to go directly to support the writers who call Wordcrafters their writing home.

How to attend the No-Show Gala

On October 2, you’re invited to stay home and spend your time doing what makes you happiest:

Curl up on the couch with a good book
Get some writing or revision done
Watch a movie you’ve been wanting to see
Go for a walk
Get out a coloring book
Take a bubble bath
Talk to a good friend

From the comfort of your own home, enjoy some time taking care of yourself and nourishing your creative soul.

Tickets to not attend the No-Show Gala are on sale now for $50, $75, and $100 and include a charitable tax receipt for the full amount. You can even invite your friends and buy a couch! (It’s like a table at a regular gala, but much more comfy.)

How do I attend the No-Show Gala?

By not coming to it. On Oct 2, stay home, and do something nourishing for yourself.

What should I do during the No-Show Gala?

That’s entirely up to you! We’ve got some suggestions for you, though, when you purchase your ticket to not show up.

What if I want to hang out with other writers?

We understand the need for writing community. We need it too. We’ve got a bunch of writing shenanigans that can fit that need: writing times, open mics, accountability groups, critique groups, etc. Check them out and find a way to hang out with us. We’re pretty rad.

Do I really have to stay home?

Nope. You can go wherever you want. We just won’t be there.

Why aren’t you having an in-person event?

Because we’re introverted writers, too. Plus, galas take a huge amount of time and resources to put on, and we’d rather use your donations to further our mission of empowering writers to tell their stories.

Can I wear fancy clothes anyway?

Absolutely. Wear your sparkliest gown, your coziest sweats, or both at the same time.

Where does my ticket money go?

It goes to support Wordcrafters programs–like scholarships for youth writers, classes for adults, and keeping our space open and available for writing time. Not to shrimp cocktails or chair rentals.

Is my ticket tax-deductible?

Yes! Because all proceeds go to support Wordcrafters, your entire ticket price is a donation.

Can I buy more than one ticket? Or a table?

Sure! You can “invite” your friends and family by buying tickets in their honor–or buy a couch (like a table, but comfier). They’ll be glad to not have to make awkward small talk with strangers.

Do I need a Zoom link?

Nope. This is a true no-show event. No livestream, no replay, no tech support.

Can I post about it?

We’d love that. Tell your friends and get them to not come too! And, on Oct 2, post a photo of yourself taking care of yourself in whatever way you choose to, and tag @wordcrafters and #noshowgala

What if I forget the date?

No worries. Your donation still counts, and your couch will still be there for you.
