Why start with a blank page to write your next masterpiece? Discover the poems hidden on the pages of books and magazines!–Just black out or “redact” the uninteresting words to create a poem that’s silly, fun, sad, unusual–something new. It’s art, it’s erasure, it’s poetry all in one.

As writer Austin Kleon notes, blackout poetry is “sort of like if the CIA did haiku.”

In this two-hour Write Club workshop with Oregon spoken-word poet and performer, Jorah LaFleur, you’ll find hidden gems and haunting words in all kinds of unexpected places.

What is Write Club? Write Club is a monthly workshop that runs during the school year and is offered to youth 9 and up. These workshops offer the opportunity for young writers to explore various genres and topics in writing with local teaching artists throughout the year. Check out all the upcoming workshops here.
