Igniting the creative flames of Lane County’s young writers

When young writers put their imagination into words, dreams can come true.

Volunteer judges for Wordcrafters’ annual Fiction Fantastic competition get to read the remarkable stories penned by the young authors from across Lane County who enter the contest. They read stories that are windows into the worlds inside students’ heads and hearts. Stories brimming with ingenuity, creativity, and talent.

Fiction Fantastic provides opportunities for children to hone their craft, express their unique voices, and gain the confidence that comes from seeing their stories professionally edited and published. But to do so, it relies on the generosity of donors like you.

Your support transforms the budding imagination of a student into a published masterpiece. It provides them with the valuable experience of having their work reviewed by professionals and celebrated by a community of fellow young writers. It can even ignite a lifelong passion or a successful career in writing.

That’s what it did for Sage Hoffman Nadeau, who placed second in the high school category of Wordcrafters’ Fiction Fantastic competition last year.

Want a glimpse into Sage’s story?

I submitted a piece the year before, but it wasn’t my best work,” Sage admits. After a nudge from her high school creative writing teacher, she decided to work hard on a story and try again.

That decision was transformative.

“I still didn’t think it would win,” she says. “But I actually liked it this time. I was proud of it.”

When Sage read the congratulatory email announcing her win, she was elated. And her confidence in her writing blossomed.

Fiction Fantastic has given her the conviction to pursue her literary dreams. She’s written three books (with a fourth in the works), queried literary agents, and submitted another short story to a SciFi anthology–-she was accepted!

“I want to be a published author,” she says. “It’s my dream job.”

Your support helps make these kinds of dreams come true for other young writers, just like Sage.

Your donations help sustain Fiction Fantastic, cultivate a supportive literary community, and ensure every K-12 student in Lane County can enter the contest at no cost. You help turn young authors’ dreams into reality, setting them on a path of discovery, self-expression, and lifelong learning. You’re part of their journey, empowering youth to share their stories with the world.
