In this fun and supportive class, you’ll learn to combine the tools of fiction writing with research into a particular place, person, object, or event to craft creative nonfiction that both entertains and educates readers. We’ll look at examples of successful creative nonfiction and cover a wealth of research strategies from how to find fascinating information about your topic to how to conduct interviews with experts.

PART 2: Publish and Promote Your Creative Nonfiction

Get your work published!

Part Two of the Creative Nonfiction series focuses on how to revise and polish your submission, and how to write a query letter or cover letter pitching the story to editors. We’ll talk about how to research and identify the perfect magazine and/or newspaper editors for your piece, how to approach and build a relationship with these editors, and how to promote the published piece to build an audience for your work.

Both classes will feature in-class and out of class writing and readings, sharing work, and commenting on others’ writing. Instructor will provide feedback on rough and final drafts as well as suggestions for where to send finished pieces.
