Poetry is magic.
In this workshop, Jon Labrousse will show you how to weave spells from many cultural traditions, including sonnets, tanka, and ghazals. You’ll learn how to use these poetic forms not only to craft meaningful poems, but to refine them into spells so powerful they’ll liven your imagination, quicken your pulse, and warm your whole being with laughter.

What is Write Club? Write Club is a monthly workshop that runs during the school year for youth age 9 and up. These workshops offer the opportunity for young writers to explore various genres and topics in writing, create community, and share their stories.
About the Instructor
Jon Labrousse (he/him) is a published, award-winning poet. He was on the last Poetry Slam team to represent Eugene, Oregon at the National Poetry Slam in 2005. He recently quit his Montessori middle school teaching job in Eugene to resuscitate his writing career.
Jon is particularly passionate about spoken word poetry and storytelling. He plays bass and sings lead vocals in the Dad Bandits, and is the lead singer and ukulele player for the Eugene-based Hawaiian music group, ‘Olekona.
